The only useful thing I did over the holidays was buy an alarm clock.
Maybe not entirely true…
But it does definitely almost feel that way.
I had huge aspirations to get a lot done over the break, I did next to none of it.
I was going to take a couple weeks off, from Podcasting…
But I got lucky, and had some guests lined up that were keen to record when I didn’t think they would be, so it was business as usual for us, until today…
No Pod today, two Letters this week instead.
It was impossible to book a guest for this week, and I absolutely don’t blame anyone. I always roast pods for taking time off and not having episodes on ice.
But as this thing goes on, I get it.
At least I think I might.
I used to really stress about missing a week, I don’t as much anymore.
I have a great guest scheduled for the 13th, so be sure to check back then.
Before 4 - 6 of you ask the ID:
Sharp Digital Alarm Clock - Brushed Silver
I want to use my phones less.
And I know everyone says that, and I always say that too.
But instead of just saying it over and over again, I’m going for it.
As of now.
Wish me luck!
I don’t really set resolutions, it’s way easier to not disappoint myself this way.
I just make a mental note of things I could (and should) be better at in 2025.
I had mentioned last week that I intended on reading a bit, I didn’t pick up one book this holiday season.
Of course I’m having no problem adhering too the Letterboxd one though.
I’ve been watching a ton of movies, some good, some less than good…
You can always follow along on there, but for some reason or another, I know you won’t.
Out of the 36 movies I’ve logged already, here’s a few I really vouch for:
Sara and I watched Missing You on Netflix so you don’t have to…
What an absolutely chaotic show.
We really liked it at first, we actually liked it a lot all the way through.
It’s only 5 episodes, they’re 40ish minutes long, so it wasn’t hard to do over the weekend.
But talking about it a bit since we finished it, we’ve realized it makes essentially zero sense…
I don’t want to spoil it, because I really do recommend that you watch it.
If for nothing other than to see what I mean…
Weird role for Ashley Walters, who plays Dushane Hill on Top Boy, in my opinion.
I guess I’m not his manager though.
We saw a ton of talk on the prestigious movie-review platform TikTok about how great it was, but I’m pretty sure that was before people had a chance to finish it and reflect on how random and unhinged ALL of the story lines and “twists” were.
Everything I’ve seen since reaffirms that suspicion too.
I really don’t like social media anymore, and have come to really resent it lately.
I’m also aware that making money from my Podcast and Newsletter (which I’m somehow kinda doing now) isn’t really possible without at least a bit of self-promotion.
People tend not to believe me.
As someone who has built a tiny something, mainly with the help of the internet.
And also someone who has gone through stages of heavy posting…
It’s just lately it all seems like a lot to keep up with.
And I’ve been crunching the numbers a bit…
I don’t know if there’s much point to it all.
All the vanity metrics and could be made up analytics don’t actually convert, my best preforming episodes or letters do terribly on Instagram, almost exclusively actually.
I’m sure we’re also quite exhausted with hearing people complain about social apps, and their evil ways…
So I’m not going to go into any more detail.
Just know I’ll be doing everything a bit differently moving forward.
You might not ever notice, but you’re actually in it right now.
The Vexbolts mass unfollow / refollow has been fun to periodically check in on.
Hilarious to follow up a paragraph about resenting social media, with talk of the most fried thing on social media right now.
And I’m fully aware that I’m way too old to even know what Vexbolts is…
It’s peak social engineering though, he broke every internet record out there.
It’s interesting…
I don’t know what’s going on with Susan Boyle’s Spotify…
If it does become a bigger thing on the internet, I do want to be on record talking about it first though.
I guess I should probably get to bed…
I left writing this until the very last minute, feels like high school all over again.
This is the first school (work) night I’ve had in weeks.
I’m sure a lot of you reading this right now are in the same boat.
Good luck this week!
Nowhere Fast is an Ongoing Branding Experiment.
We do a lot of stuff here, at least we try to…
Two of the things we’re most consistent with though are:
We release a weekly audio-only Podcast. (Mondays at 12;01am MST)
We also publish a weekly Newsletter. (Wednesdays at 12:01am MST)
If you have friends or family that you think might not hate some of the stuff we make…
Consider telling them about us, please and thank you.
Thanks for reading.
